For 40 years, the Family Sunshine Center has worked tirelessly to educate the community on the devastating effects of violence and provide programs and services to victims. In the beginning our focus was solely on domestic violence and its victims. Over time, to reflect the issues facing our community, our program has expanded to include services for sexual assault victims and survivors of sex and labor trafficking.

HOW WE HELP

With service sites in ten Alabama counties, we offer victims/survivors an immediate response and safe haven in crisis, whether that occurs at 2:00 PM or 2:00 AM. Our 24-hour resource and information hotline is often the first stop when a person in crisis reaches out. In addition to finding someone who cares about their situation, they will find information about resources and swift intervention during a crisis.

Ongoing support services are usually needed to escape the vicious cycle of violence. We provide individual, family, and/or group counseling, and emotional support for primary and secondary victims of all ages. Other supportive services include case management, violence assessment, safety planning, community resources, and legal and court advocacy.

Everyone deserves to have a safe place to sleep, eat, and live. We provide emergency safe shelter and transitional housing facilities for those fleeing violence. All residents receive comprehensive services to best meet their needs and increase their chances of successfully overcoming the trauma and impacts of violence.
